A Request for Ideas

Saturday, May 06, 2017

Right now I'm doing my best to keep my head above water with all the things I feel I need to get done. I'm trying to play catch up but really I'm just treading water. I'm struggling with good ideas for posts on my Wellness blog,

Do any of you have health/food or fitness topics you'd like to learn about? I'd love some ideas on what to write. It would be really helpful!

I see your workouts with bells. I don't know about anyone else, but I find it intimidating as all get out. I look at those videos, think "wow I'd like to do that," and then...well then my brain stops. Because I have NO CLUE how you got from where I am today (holy cow I am barely lifting a 3 pound dumbbell for my reps!) to THAT (holy cow, you're lifting the weight of a for-real COW for your reps!!).

I find it overwhelming and intimidating. Don't even know how to change so I COULD do those. And let me be honest, the emotional component to this is big. I know that. So...that's something *I* would be interested in.

I always like to learn about favorite books, blogs, or podcasts. Things that you follow or helped you. That might be easy (?) to collect some faves. Maybe! Hugs, I know this is a tough time for you.

I would love to see an article comparing the different brands of protein powder that's out there, including ones that can be heated and ones that should only be used in cold things.

    How to really eat seasonally.

What does it mean to eat "clean"?

How about the #$%*̂‡$ people let themselves believe because they are looking for a magic fix-all instead of actually committing to lifestyle changes? I have a colleague at work who alternates between "cleanses" and eating healthy meals but drinking a lot of wine. I have another friend who is doing keto, and another friend who swears by that French guy diet where you eat oat bran or something every day. If any of these things worked long-term, we'd all be thin.

Before I retired, I used to think I got enough exercise at work. An article comparing the benfits of exercising vs the physical labor of your job or the walking you do at work would certainly have helped me. Also one on how medication affects weight loss/gain, and how weight loss affects how much medication you take. Almost by accident during a visit, my doctor told me one of my meds should decrease proportionally with my weight while another should stay the same. Who knew? How about an article called, "What your pharmacist can tell you that your doctor might not?" including the necessity of checking the paperwork they give you at the pharmacist instead of throwing it away like I usually do. That info CHANGES as the learn more about drug interactions.

Gluten, healthy fats, pros and cons of vegetarian/vegan diet, genetically modified foods, plant protein, best bottled water (I drink nestle pure life because it is one of the few that doesn't contain fluoride), juicing, how to prevent diabetes, which fruits and veggies are the most nutritious, grain vs grass fed meats, is dairy necessary for adults, the best seafood to eat to avoid contamination, the best carbs, the best grains, growing your own vegetables, shopping the farmers markets for local produce...

I like the ideas of fun ways to burn calories to get out of a rut.

My next thing to look into is RMR testing. I'd love to know how many calories I'm ACTUALLY burning, not just what the charts say I'm at.

Maybe something on taking your indoor workout outside now that summer is approaching. Beyond walking and jogging.

    Good Luck!

I agree with Hmbrown1. Exercise ruts suck. Reviewing new equipment or new routines to help encourage people to try new things and keep their workouts fresh would be a blog I would follow. I have recently tried kettlebell workouts, footboard workouts, and HIIT workouts to keep my body guessing and avoid the rut.

I am all about trying new fitness ideas. Right now I am taking DrumFit classes and belly dancing classes. I still walk and swim. I just needed to break out of the rut. I would love and other ideas. Thanks!
