Progress Update #12
Thursday, April 13, 2017
My progress is currently a real mixed bag. I have lots of highs and lows. Today, I had my final visit with wound care. I am totally finished with home care. That leaves me temporarily on my own for physical therapy.
Two days ago, I had a check up with my primary. My thyroid level was too high, which is to be expected because of my three weeks in the hospital without proper medication. My doctor was surprised that it is as good as the current level. It will improve with time. My cholesterol levels and triglycerides were awesome. That was a surprise. The bad news is that I'm anemic and it didn't correct during the past three months since my surgery. Today I started time release iron, twice a day. I am hoping that the iron will correct my anemia and the fatigue that runs along with it. Getting my thyroid levels back to my optimum levels will also help with the fatigue.
The bad news is that the doctor inspected my wound areas. They are all sealed but I have a huge amount of scarring from all of the wounds. Some of the scars will get smaller over time but the majority are permanent the way they are. I was crushed. The scars are very painful and several press on nerves. Hubby and I may have to discuss suing the orthopedist. I honestly dread thoughts of having to take legal action. My life for the last three months (since surgery) has been a living hell.
The good news is that the doctor said I'm okay to attend my daughter's wedding. I'm still wobbly when I walk outside and I get stiff easily. I will be in attendance at the wedding and I'm keeping my eye on that.
After the wedding, I will start out patient therapy. I desperately need to work on strengthening my legs. Once I'm more stable when I walk and my remaining scabs come off, I can begin thinking about returning to swimming. I've been out of the water for two years. I look forward to returning.
