Gonna beat the sugar demon

Thursday, April 13, 2017

Controlling the sugar intake is the most challenging vice I have had to overcome in my life. Other vices were tough but not as tough as sugar. The challenge is that sugar is everywhere.

In beating other vices I didn't have to worry about the vice being hidden and snuck into my life multiple times a day and by so many I care about in my world. Most vices are a direct individual choice as to their use. But food, and the repetitive use of sugar, is so deeply rooted and openly accepted in our culture. Its a challenge we need to be aggressively fighting every day and is requiring a whole new set of rules in how I face it.

I am taking on this challenge as the biggest competitor I have yet had to face. I will beat this demon and remove it from my world, except where I consensually choose for it to be there, But it will not nonconsensually beat me.

If you eat mostly healthy unprocessed foods and refrain from buying and eating products with refined sugar like chocolate, sweets, cake and ice cream you are well on your way.

Sugar indeed is everywhere - but not in my house! emoticon

emoticon I too battle with the sugar demon every single day. I challenge myself to abstaining from sweets, one streak at a time. I've been in alcohol sobriety for 17 years, this sugar addiction is much more difficult to conquer.

Sugar has been my most difficult vice as well. In fact, my matra is more strong than it should be, and I know it, but it helps me: "Sugar is poison". My whole family has heard this numerous times. I hope they take it to heart. We all need to.

I am able to stay away from the 'added' sugars. However, my problem occurs with the natural sugar and the products with the unexpected amounts of added sugar. Those are tough.

Sugar is a tough one! The more you stay away, the easier it gets. Try to always have some protein with the sugar (like nuts).
