Delicious Turmeric Lemonade

Thursday, April 06, 2017

This morning my DH and I had breakfast at a new place that offers lots of interesting and healthful choices for breakfast and lunch.
I saw turmeric lemonade on the menu and ordered it - having just recently heard about the health benefits of turmeric.

And the lemonade was DELICIOUS!

Ordinarily I don't drink a lot of lemonade because it is way too sweet for me.
This one was not.

I will definitely make it for myself at home. I looked online for a recipe, and found many of them.

Below is the web address to just one. I invite you to try it.

(Note: I have tried adding 3 different links here with no success. Sorry. You can see the recipe if you copy and paste the address above into your browser's address window.)

The lemonade this morning in the restaurant had some seltzer in it -- not just water. And that seltzer added a bit of a zing that I really liked.

I may experiment with that too.

Better yet, let me just paste the recipe right here:

Prep and cook time: 20 minutes Serves 4

4 cups water
1 teaspoon organic turmeric powder (or a 3-inch strip fresh turmeric root, peeled)
1 teaspoon organic ginger powder (or a 4-inch strip fresh ginger root, peeled)
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
honey or dark-liquid stevia, to taste
lemon slices, or the juice of a full lemon (to taste)

Put water into a small pot and bring to a boil on the stove. Make sure that the water has come to a full boil. Add turmeric and ginger to the boiling water and reduce to simmer for 8 to 10 minutes. This will extract the beneficial compounds from the turmeric and ginger. Remove the pot from the stove. Strain the tea into a cup through a fine-mesh strainer to filter out the particles of turmeric and ginger. Add sweetener and lemon to taste.
