Beck Day 29-31 staying in Control while eating out; Deciding on Drinking; Planning for travel
Sunday, April 02, 2017
Two of these three days I have been getting lots of practice with. I have been away for three weeks and returned home last night. I ate out quite a lot when I was away. Some days were at the hospital. This was fairly easy as they had a Noodle place that used only broth and you told them what you wanted in your meal. It was also very helpful that they posted the nutritional info on all of the food offered. I learned that buckwheat noodles have half the calories of wheat or rice noodles. Who knew?!
I also went out for sushi, Malaysian and Indian food and lots of coffee! I used a combination of choosing carefully, sharing dishes, and portion control to stay within my calorie range.
The deciding about drinking is a non issue for me as I don't drink. If I did I would have had to decide where I wanted to spend my calories. Food or drink?
Planning for travel is important. The first choice to make is what do you want the outcome of your travel to be. Do you want to lose or maintain? Or are you okay with a gain? That is a personal decision and affects how you plan for your trip.
When I went away it was important to me to continue to lose while I was away. To this end I chose to eat within my calorie range, eat a good breakfast every day and then have a late lunch/early dinner as my other meal each day. If I wanted something later I chose fruit. This plan combined with the choices outlined above worked well for me. I was able to lose weight over the three weeks.
Before SparkPeople and Beck I would have gained weight. I would have thrown up my hands and decided that it was out of my control so I might as well enjoy myself. Now I realize that I am the only one who can make the choice and that enjoying myself is not predicated on being able to eat everything in sight.
