A Good Start in Chicago

Monday, March 27, 2017

Got to Chicago yesterday afternoon and will be here for the week. I'm off to a good start. My trainer sent me the week's worth of workouts and I did the first one this morning. (Side note: It's not the same when you don't have your friends there to complain about it with!)

I'm also really happy that they provide an empty fridge in the room (so many hotels now have these weighted sensors so you can't even move the existing contents without being charged. They make me angry.) so I went to the grocery store a block away and got yogurt, bananas, granola, and a protein shake. I'm all set for breakfast every day (and probably some snacks) this week now.

Dinner last night wasn't too bad. Salad, bread, and mushroom ravioli. I limited myself to one glass of wine. Don't really know what lunches are in store for me but they'll be grab and go. I see a Mexican and a Chinese place next to the grocery store which is basically like a Whole Foods so they have a hot bar and to-go sushi. That may be an option several days.

Dinners will be heartier, probably, as every single night I now have planned with colleagues and/or friends. Tonight is a vegetarian place with my friend who lives here so I'm sure it'll be good.

Overall I am doing OK. If I can avoid the inevitable cookie breaks and eat my bananas instead life will be golden. That is kind of a big 'if' because OMG COOOOOOOOKIES. But I will try. Or at least limit myself to one cookie break. :)

Is the grocery store a Mariano's? You can buy one slice of bread from the bakery if you want it. They sell it by the pound, so when I go and visit my mom I buy enough bread for two sandwiches rather than a whole loaf. They also grill anything from the meat or seafood departments free of charge, although I know that you're vegan so that's not really something you need.

Enjoy my beautiful city-you're there at the best time of the year.
