It's All in the Balance

This week I started training for a May triathlon, and it's been a great experience so far...
I put together a training schedule.
I followed it perfectly.
I swam twice this week, running or walking after each swim, and I biked once at the gym on a spin bike because it was too cold to bike outside. And yesterday, I went on a 13 mile bike ride on the beautiful Baltimore and Annapolis trail. It was the first warm day in a while and I got out there before there were too many people on the trail. Just wonderful! I could have ridden all day...
I've done a lot of research about the event - what equipment I will need and which is optional, how to train for each segment of the event, how to transition between the segments.
I'm starting to get outfitted for the event - I found a tri kit (the clothing you apparently wear for the ENTIRE EVENT) for half price
at the local bike store, and also got some clipless pedals and shoes at a good discount. I've been wanting to go to clipless pedals for awhile so this was a good time to do it. (For those unfamiliar, it is a pedal and shoe system where the shoes attach to the pedal allowing better performance than regular pedals). I'm a little nervous about it - I hear everyone falls over at least once - but I think it will be a good change.
One thing I haven't been consistent with is my eating. In the two months since reading the Beck Diet Solution again, I've been very diligent about using the checklist I created to make sure I stick with my Beck practices - making a plan, tracking my food, using resistance techniques, etc. And I find that while I usually stay within the Spark-suggested calorie range, I am not sticking to my plan as well as I would like. I think one of the reasons I find myself eating more is because I've stepped up my exercise and I'm hungrier. But I am going to need to find a balance because even with the additional exercise, my weigh loss is pretty much stalled.
So, this week I am determined to stick to my plan so I can take off some of these pounds before the race. I'll watch my consumption and track it against my exercise to make sure I'm fueling my body properly. I'm also going to remember to motivate myself by reminding myself WHY I want to do this, and give myself credit for the positive steps I take to stay healthy and lose weight.
So, happy Sunday, Sparklers! Wishing everyone a healthy and productive day!
