Run Run Rhonda - Kiss Me I'm Irish Half Marathon Recap

Saturday, March 18, 2017

This morning was the Kiss Me I'm Irish Half Marathon in Glendale, AZ. Beautiful community and the race venue at the Westgate Mall was great... lots of parking and the DH was able to sit in a restaurant/bar right at the finish line and stay cool while he waited for me to finish. He participated in a 4k so finished well before me.

It was a hot day! It was in the high 60's when I started (at 7:15) and I was so thankful that I brought my handheld water bottle as the temps were in the 80's when I finished. Several times I used my water bottle to squirt water on my arms and back to try and cool down. The last 2-3 miles I mostly walked as it would have been easy to get heat stroke and that problem I didn't need. At about mile 12.5 I went past the stadium where the Arizona Cardinals play. It is a pretty interesting stadium and was designed to look like a barrel cactus.

I am a slow runner and lots of vendors were closing shop when I came in. At one table they were giving out mini cupcakes (which looked delicious!) They asked if I wanted one and while I was debating they told me to take the whole box! Obviously they didn't want to pack them out and I knew this would put a smile of DH's face for sure.. so I took a box. You would be proud of me... I didn't have even one!

Yesterday evening, we also participated in a 1k Irish Kilt Fun Run. That was fun and basically all we did was walk 1/2 mile around the perimeter of the shopping mall. There were some people watching and I had to laugh when they told us we were "almost there". We were almost there when we started! The event organizers were hoping to set a Guinness World Record for most participants in a kilt. I haven't heard yet if a record was set. They provided the Kilt as part of the $25 sign up fee as well as a finishers medal and a beer at the finish. A pretty good deal!

Here we are ready for the Kilt run
