Cutting Refined Sugar

The first thing I'm going to do to try to get my numbers down is cutting refined sugar from my diet. I don't drink soda, but I have been eating sugary breakfast cereals and I have been known to snack on sugar-laden granola bars and sometimes sugary coffee drinks from Starbucks or juices.

I've decided to give myself a little bit of wiggle room (since I'm trying to take baby steps), so I'm going to try to keep it below 25g sugar per day, and on most days I want the sugar to come from fruit (though I might still eat a Kind bar or something similar now and then).

For breakfasts, I'm replacing my Cocoa puffs with plain cheerios.

For Starbucks (when I very rarely go), I will have a flat white or other non-sweetened drink, like plain tea.

Juice just doesn't make the cut. I might buy oranges or clementines but I won't be buying sugary orange juice anymore. I'll drink milk in the mornings.

I won't throw away the granola bars I already have, but I won't be buying new ones, and I'll slowly ration them out over time until they are gone.

I'm going to make sure I get enough protein and fat to feel full and try my best to stay away from sugary things... I'll also be staying away from refined grains and trying to keep my overall daily carbs below 150g.

OH! And yogurt... NO MORE of the super sugary variety... I am going to stick to the plain greek yogurt with berries and learn to love it.

    Good for you!!! I have gone sugar free gradually and it feels good! I notice now things taste sweeter that didn't taste that sweet before.

    The greek yogurt is so good . . . . loaded w/protein. And you can add your own fruit for sweetness. Good for you for at least taking those baby steps! You can do it.

    By the way frozen bananas in dark or milk chocolate are delicious! They are in the ice cream aisle. All that it is a half of a banana and a bit of chocolate. 😊

    I used to eat lots of ice cream and sorbet, so I bought some frozen fruit to replace it with. At first it was one for one but then I was able to cut down on the frozen fruit as well. It was much easier.

    Awesome start! You are actually cutting out a lot and bonus points to you for doing that! Sugar is crazy hard to cut out and it's in everything. Like, Mac and Cheese has refined sugar 😤
