It's Monday morning. I have a cup of tea, and I'm typing, not writing, as I look ahead at the week and review a bit the week just passed.
I feel good that my wife and I are working together, not separately, on the issue of how ot retire, and, in particular, where to live. She likes the DC area. Calls it "sane." I like the SF Bay area. Call it "exciting." But we're looking for one floor living, anticipating that in the not too distant future the warranty on our knees or hips or just strength will run out and we'll find stairs unwelcoming. We've been looking at open houses for weeks trying to see what we can trade our current house in for. Have not seen the sort of place that would make us want to move. But we're working at clearing out the house as the first step toward moving. Decluttering. And giving serious thought to the concept. It will be expensive, with closing costs, moving expense, maybe taxes. So we're looking a year or two down the road, but want to be prepared if something shows up that we really would like.
Anyway, the house search and the idea of moving and giving up our 30 year (on and off) presence in the local neighborhood has been the elephant in the room for a while, and it feels good that we're both working on it with some coordination.
The past week also looks good as I feel a bit of a crack in the plateau I've been stuck on. It's not a bad place, but at the upper limit of normal BMI and I'm working at getting nearer the middle of the range. I'm working at getting more fiber in the diet and looking at more exotic recipes that will perk up meal times. Last night my wife made flounder amok - using a gift package of Amok spice. It was fun. Maybe this week I'll treat us to a chicken tiki masala.
I'm also consistent in getting in daily walking (mostly by doing chores and not using our car). I'm getting into the gym several times a week and now have a good opportunity for more shoulder strengthening and stretching. It's not much fun - light weights on the cable machine, but it's probably helpful. I'll be seeing an orthopedic surgeon tomorrow and can ask her advice.
Another issue is tax preparation. I think I'm ahead on that, having gathered most of the information needed. My goal is to submit by end March.
And, finally, my plan of AM study (professional and French) and chores works pretty well. Keeps activity focused on goals and lets me see progress. Not bad.
So this is a calm Monday AM. No panic, no major worries. Bright sunny (if chilly) day. The week looks like it will go well.
