Living Healthy and Influencing Others

Sunday, March 05, 2017

We had a great end-of-the-season Galloway party. Here I am at the photobooth with the two new runners I ran with that morning, finishing their first 5K race ever.

I took the crunchy cucumber salad I have posted before recipes.sparkpeop
le.com/recipe-detail.asp?r
ecipe=3207622

but added more different colors of bell peppers beside the cucumbers, onion, celery, and radishes to the seasoned dill and garlic apple cider vinegar. I was truly surprised that every bite of my salad was consumed and I didn't have a bit to bring home! Isn't it great that this group loves their veggies??

The party "favors" we all received are medal hangers with wood-burned Galloway logo and the picture of a road with a runner. One of the members made them. What a perfect gift for this group!

My nephew asked me to run with him this morning. He has to work Saturdays, so can no longer do Galloway group runs. My training plan didn't call for a run this morning, but I want to encourage him and I knew it would be an easy run for me. He wanted to do :30/:30 run/walk at a 15 minute per mile pace. He said the :10/:30 run last Sunday with Joy was too slow for him. We ran-walked 3 miles and walked for about a total of 7 miles, at about a 17 minute pace. He is recognizing that he must work to get back to where he was with running a year ago. It was a beautiful day and he wants to make a Sunday run part of his routine. I'm hoping that even after it gets hot he will still want to do it!

We are invited to a fish fry today. Hoping I can get away without sabotaging the food plan too badly. I'll tuck a few healthy things in my purse. My grandkids are going and they are such fussy eaters. Hope it all works out. I always remember that when I can't completely control what I am eating, I am still 100% in control of the portions.

What are you doing to live healthy today? How are you influencing others?

    Love the photo shared of you and the two new runners. Fun! You look so cute in your outfit! The medal hangers sound wonderful. What a thoughtful gift. I bet your nephew really appreciated you supporting him by joining him for a run.

    As far as the fish fry goes, I guess my thinking is different. I would not consider it a situation in which I do not have complete control of what I'm eating. I always have complete control of what I eat. I am the one that chooses to eat or not. No one force feeds me. I realize that we don't have control of the food available when we attend such events. But, I still have complete control of whether I choose to eat it or not.

    I know ... ruthless thinking. But, that's what it takes for me. I can attend an event and choose to eat nothing and be just fine. Hunger is not an emergency. And, if I know the pickings will be slim. I eat before I go and simply enjoy the company of others free of food that doesn't support my health and well being. People are free to have their opinions of my choices and label my behavior as they see fit. And, as one of my sisters likes to say, "What others think of me is none of my business." Yeah. I'm tough. I acknowledge it. It's taken tough love to get me where I am.

    I like the point you made about having 100% control over your portions. I am going to be staying with my sister for up to six weeks until my Mom is recovered enough from surgery to travel 8 hours to get home. This is one I'm going to write on an ARC to have with me. Thank you for influencing me!

    Good reminders to self about the things one can ALWAYS control. As for me, what I'm doing to support living healthy is resting, hydrating, and taking meds as directed. Rest is huge. emoticon
