I ran with the absolute most enthusiastic new runner I have ever met this morning and another runner who would have taken that title if it wasn't for the first one! We finished the Promise 5K in under an hour, running the hilly course in :10/:30 intervals. There is no doubt that when I'm just not as fast as I once was (although I'm working to regain some speed), nothing is as exciting as helping new runners achieve goals.
Shot from the starting corral. Gray hair to the right belongs to the second runner.
Here's the finish line:
And here is Joy and me after we crossed it:
While I think finishers' medals for a 5K seems excessive, in this case it is very motivating for our new runners.
Now I need to go get in my 2.5 mile race rehearsal in preparation for my real race a week from today. I'm still about 3 pounds over the weight I was in 2013-14 when I ran my fastest races. But for now I think training is the priority and maintaining my weight this week will be just fine! I do feel really pumped from my great experience this morning.
