Why does watching "tv"...

Sunday, February 26, 2017

...make people (me) want to eat?? Thinking of getting rid of amazon (already chucked cable)...maybe try learning a language online. Just thinking out loud.

Perhaps because it's somewhat like going to the movies...! I don't have TV either, just the internet portion of cable, but then, it's really the same! Except your hands are busy typing!

We got rid of satellite a couple years ago. Now we stream shows on Hulu or Netflix or watch regular TV. It has slowed me down on the TV watching!

I do the same thing. Sometimes I think it's out of boredom. Other times I just need my hands to be busy. Many, many years ago when I was living in Colorado and not making a lot of money, the picture tube in my t.v. went out and I couldn't afford another one right away. I spent one whole summer without t.v. It was wonderful. I met new people and did things I probably wouldn't have otherwise. I read a lot and listened to music. Now, 25+ years later, I think about reducing my cable to the very basic and saving myself a few bucks and a few hours a week of sitting around on my keister, but actually doing it? I don't know. My sister hasn't had t.v. for years and she is always out and doing something, but she lives in a city and I live in a small farm town. I'm gonna think about this some more, though. If you want to try a language, check with your local library. Some libraries offer language classes with an instructor. That would be so cool...

My wife and I got rid of TV eight years ago. It has been liberating! We had one moment of weakness last year. In order to see what we could of the presidential campaign, we started back with Comcast in May. We kept it until the day after the election, at which time we went back to life without it. We can breath again! We do have a Roku box, which we watch CBS news shows on, and also, we get quite a bit of PBS's offerings. But that's about it. Except for when we are actually watching TV or listening to music, it is a quiet house. Glenn
