It's really just a personal victory. Yes, I shoot. A gun. A firearm. A pistol. A Glock 43 if you want to get technical. If you would have told me 2 years ago that I would be shooting and liking it, I would have told you that you were nuts.
I have been frustrated lately because I joined a target shooting club couple of months ago to improve and I wasn't seeing results. Now I know why.
We knew that my problem was jerking the trigger. That's when you pull the trigger too fast and the gun dips causing ( if you are a right-handed shooter) all your shots to be down and to the left. Now granted if a bad guy came at me and I was forced to fire, I would be able to take him down, but I'm just not as accurate and consistent as I wanted to be.
So the instructor said, I think I know what we need to do. She got me one of the full size 9mm pistols she rents and said, "Try this." I shredded the target with 8 clean shots. Perfect form.
We figured out that the trigger weight on my pistol is too strong for me and the gun is light so it makes recoil that much more. The problem is inexperienced shooter with the wrong gun for my skill level. Not that I won't ever be able to shoot my Glock with accuracy, but I need to practice the fundamentals with a heavier gun.
Why in the world did I tell you this story? Some of you might think now that I'm a gun-crazed lunatic. :D I hope not. I'm really normal, well sorta. :D
I relate it to eating right and exercise. You may think, I'm doing everything right, why am I not losing or gaining muscle? Sometimes it's the small things that make the biggest difference. On my weigh loss journey, I've found that to be true. Little things like how late I eat dinner or did I do good form on leg day, make a difference in what happens on the scale and in the mirror. Pay attention to the little things if you are frustrated. Tweak one thing at a time. Slow and steady wins the race, just like a trigger pull.
