Rain Training Run
Wednesday, February 22, 2017
I considered a treadmill run today because it was raining and predicted to rain all day. I was thinking about my recent half marathon in the rain, and today it was considerably warmer than during that race. Decided I would try a little run in the neighborhood; I could always come in and go to the treadmill if it was too slippery or just too miserable. Decided not to go to the trail, just stay on our street, even though that means my quarter mile repeats would have to include a turn as there isn't a straight quarter mile near my house. For those who aren't runners, a turn slows down the runner.
Once I got outside it wasn't too bad. I ran all 9 miles, including the 15 quarter mile repeats, in my neighborhood, in the rain. I had to avoid the edges of the street because of deep water, but in the middle of the street it wasn't bad. In the almost 2 hours I was outside there was only one car driving on my street, but I did keep a careful watch out for them.
In the 15 repeats I averaged 2:18, 2 minutes and 18 seconds. Last week when I did the 13 repeats my training plan called for, I averaged 2:22. So I ran a little longer, a little faster, on a tougher course, in worse conditions. The first 3 seemed hard, but then it got easier. I'd say I'm improving. Smile. Proud to stick to my training plan, no matter.
Did my stretching, which I really needed, and my PT strengthening, too. Still not back down to a middle two on the scale, but I'm eating smart and going to keep smiling anyway!
Are you following a training or exercise plan? What challenges have you overcome??
