Beck Refresh Day #39: Keep Up With Exercise

(This blog is from yesterday, I drafted it in Evernote but was too busy to post it) I really love to exercise but it's gotten harder for me to get that time in than it used to be, with a longer commute now. I love to run, I love to ride my bike, I like hiking and walking and yoga. I don't love strength training but I do it anyway.... Maybe not as much as I should, but I do it. This coming weekend, I'm going to start checking out gyms in the new neighborhood, and maybe get a personal trainer. I like not having to think about ST, I much prefer to do it mindlessly, even if it is a bit of a luxury. I'm also signing up for a 10k race in April and a half marathon in September or October, to keep me motivated. The trick to exercising regularly is getting on a schedule. I've gotten better about getting up early again, like I used to do. Recognizing that means getting enough sleep the night before - which I never used to do! Today I'm on my second day of work travel. I stuck to my plan yesterday, resisting many temptations, including baskets full of chips and candy.... and the same is likely to be true today. And while I made a plan, wasn't sure what would be available for dinner. As it turned out, I only had to revise my plan a bit, from chicken and pasta to chicken and rice. Steamed healthy Chinese food is always a good option, as long as you stay away from the sauces. I also read my response cards, ate slowly and mindfully while sitting down, and gave myself credit for all these behaviors. I prepared myself to get up early and get to the gym by laying out my clothes and making sure my things were in order to so I could shower and pack quickly and check out by 7 am for a flight which ended up being delayed by 3 hours.... Whew! So, much better than last week. Many thanks for all your encouragement! I've been trying to keep up with everyone's blogs and thank everyone who's been so encouraging but the past two weeks have been busy. I look forward to slowing down a little and stopping by to say hi to more of you. Wishing health and happiness to all!

    Great job!! Doing well while on a trip is impressive!! Getting your schedule down for runs is great. Putting ST int he mindless category with the investment in a trainer is smart.

    I like to do early morning workouts also. It keeps me from very rarely missing a day. I also get everything ready the night before so it isn't an issue in the morning. Keep up the good work and good luck with your new schedule!
