Fit Saturday - Fatbike Race #3
Saturday, January 28, 2017
Today I raced in the 3rd Fatbike race (mountain bike racing on snow with really big snow tires), of a 5 race series. I rode 22.14 miles, climbing 1,087 feet of elevation in 2 hours 27 minutes or 35.6 kms, 331.3 meters in 2 hours 27 minutes.
It was a fun race. My husband and son raced as well. My son came in first in the U20 category. I tied for 3rd in the Womens Open category with a good friend of mine that I rode 3 of the 4 laps with. Chatting and riding lol maybe we should try harder! I won a new tire and some beer which I gave to my hubby.
I got to hang out before and after with riding friends. The course was completely snow covered which was a big concern leading up to the race. There were some long grindy hills which I'm not a fan of. I prefer shorter, punchy hills. Some of the downhills were hair raising, it's a good thing I trust my tires!
We slept in the Sprinter van the night before so for a quick, easy camp breakfast I had 2 coffees with heavy cream, a small bagel bun with chicken, onions and spinach and butter on it. 1/2 hour before the race I had chocolate chia pudding made with a can of coconut milk, cocoa powder, ground chia seeds and a few dates to sweeten. On the bike during the race I drank water and ate 2 dates and about 1 banana worth of dehydrated banana.
All in all it was a great day and I get to do it again next weekend!
4820 steps today and 22 miles of riding and my Garmin is still buzzing at me to MOVE! Shut it Garmin!!
