More for you armchair travelers - Day trip & hike to Ngare Ndare Forest Trust
Wednesday, January 18, 2017
This was a short hike - about 10km but a lot of fun. Ngare Ndare has been created as a wildlife corridor between Lewa Conservancy & Mt Kenya National Park to allow for wildlife migration.
It is an amazing place with beautiful gnarly old trees. We were in a very big group, so of course we did not meet much wildlife, but the waterfalls, ice cold natural pools and the Canopy Walk are a lot of fun. Definitely going back there....
On the way we discovered a brand new High-end Mall in Nanyuki.
BTW if you see an armed game warden in the pictures, don't worry they come along to prevent human - wildlife conflicts.
MT Kenya in it's beauty
We crossed numerous small streams
Had fun at the pools - ok I did NOT dive in there.... but upstream there were some tiny waterfalls, natural water slides & "baby" pools - I had fun there.
The Baby Pools
More Hiking to the beautiful waterfall this waterfall had another pool - ice cold from the glacier water off Mt Kenya - where people went swimming then we hiked back and went to the Canopy Walk.
What an experience - walking in the sky! Once you found your balance it was fun and we got into posing, and goofing around...
We saw some elephant skulls on the ground
Crossed raging rivers....
Were hugged by trees
and tried out a tree swing
Then we watched others being scared and trying get used to the shaking atmosphere
Then it was time to take some final pictures and head home

You are certainly blessed to experience such a hike with your group. Fascinating to see the different species of plants and trees there, much different from the ones we have in Tennessee, lol. 1461 days ago
