Beck Refresh Day # 29: Resist Food Pushers

Tuesday, January 17, 2017

Dr. Beck counsels us to be bold about saying no to people who push us to eat. Is it possible that some of us might use the pushing from the food pushers as an excuse to do what we want to do anyway? It think there are times I may have done this. But not anymore! And I truly don't worry whether people's feelings will be hurt if I refuse the offer of food. Like Dr. Beck, I think most people don't care what I eat. Yesterday was my birthday! I love it when my birthday falls on MLK's holiday, as it does every so often. And since my husband was taking me out to to dinner, I made a plan to indulge with two glasses of wine and desert. A few extra calories but a lot of fun! Apparently this was a perfect amount of indulgence because I'm happily back to what has become my usual 1400 or so calories today. Today was a good day. I made a plan and followed it. I read my response cards and considered my goals. I ate slowly while sitting down, enjoying every bite. I didn't exercise but I plan to tomorrow morning before work. And I gave myself credit for all my healthy behaviors. And I'm planning a 3 mile run tomorrow morning! I'm starting to get back in shape, more endurance, less fatigue and more fun! Wishing everyone a happy and healthy week!

Wonderful to celebrate your day with healthy behaviors which, yes, includes the occasional (planned) indulgence. I wish you an entire year ahead of such great choices!
