Change of shade, change of attitude?

Monday, January 09, 2017

Hey, how come camera phone software doesn't come with "negative image" filters any more? Saw the pic of me with that filter, it made me chuckle, I put it back in as my profile pic. Whether it changes anything, I kinda doubt. The new year seems to have had no effect on the rut. FOund it rather amusing that Spark People sent out phone notices asking, a mere week into the new year, how we were doing on our resolutions. Leave aside the fact the my singular resolution is a year long challenge, is that the general amount of time a typical new resolution lasts? Seems a bit short.

Anyway. current contract goes through, roughly the 4th of july. Kinda thinking of doing a road trip thereafter, maybe check off a whole bunch of state capitols by doing a wander out to the east and northeast? Looking it up, seems like it might cost me 5 hours to get to Charleston, West Virginia to start, and another 5 hours to get to Richmond, VA. But then, it's just 100 minutes to Washington DC (i'd want to spend a couple days to look at museums, maybe even catch a ballgame), a mere 45 minutes to Annapolis, MD, a mere 75 minutes to Dover, Delaware and another 2 hours to Trenton NJ. Granted, it'd take 3 hours to get to Hartford, CT from there, but I have extended family (my brother's sis-in-law) the New York area, to break up that drive. But after Hartford, 90 minutes to Providence, RI, a mere hour north to Boston (yeah, traffic might have something to say about that), and just one more hour to Concord, NH. Beyond that, I'd have to hit Augusta, ME first (2.5 hours) before turning back to Montpelier VT, a 180 mile trek that would take 4 hours due to having to go through the White mountains national forest. Another 3 hours would get me to Albany, NY. And then I'd have to think about whether I wanted to spend the time going back down to Harrisburg PA, which is 300 miles from Albany, or take a jog over to Cooperstown, NY to visit the Baseball Hall of Fame again. Guess I could do Harrisburg after Annapolis, but that would also be going out of the way. Then again, looks like Hershey, PA is in the near neighborhood of Annapolis.

Pipe dream? Maybe. Just spitballing. Maybe I'll get extended on the contract, maybe I'll get another contract shortly after, and not have time to run away for a couple of weeks. Maybe I won't want to drive all that distance by myself, though really, I don't have much of an issue going for a drive alone. So, what I'm saying is, maybe it won't happen. But I do have that life goal of going to see all the state capitols, so, here's a possible chance to hit a full quarter of the list, plus the national capitol, off the list in the space of a couple of weeks, plus getting to see a few friends along the way. Dunno, kinda wanna make it happen. But let's see what the old thing called life has in store.
