One year on from my initial decision to regain my health

A year ago I decided to loose weight and exercise more to enhance my life. I felt like I was getting old and am not ready for that yet.

Well the weightloss hasn't gone so well, and the exercise has been a real mixed bag. I seem to get one injury after another, I'm always in recovery. I feel better because I am eating better food.

After all, that hard work all I can really say is well the weight hasn't got any worse and the exercise has on average got a bit better. So it is not the outstanding success I'd hoped for, and this isn't the blog I was hoping to write one year in.

Things haven't got any worse! Well that's good! that in itself is a big achievement after two decades of upward scale trends and gradual increase in sedentary lifestyle.

So over the last year I have learned that diets don't work, and only changing my eating habits can give me the long term effects I want. Yes that is all very well and good, but I have also learned that not dieting doesn't work either. I can maintain my weight, and yes I feel heaps better for having proper nutrition. But I need to maintain at 70kg not 100kg! So I am going on a diet. I am going on a calorie controlled healthy eating diet. My number 1 goal for 2017 is to loose weight, not exercise more, not be more healthy - all things I want to do - but to loose weight to reduce the load on my joints so that I can exercise more.

    Welcome to the club; and I don't mean that to be discouraging or disrespectful. Just my reality. I have been facing the same issues for several years now. I am gradually coming to accept that I just can't eat the way I used to (aka how I still want to). I guess it comes down to which is more important: being healthy (including appropriate weight for height) or indulging my appetites? Grieve and get over myself. Get on with the show.

    Have you tried chair exercise? I kept injuring myself trying to do the jumping around and high impact stuff. I switched to chair exercise and bingo!!! no more injuries and I strengthened my core and got into shape while losing weight. I've backslid since then for various reasons but I'm still here and still believe in chair exercises! Just a thought!
