My Hero Wore a Yellow skirted swimsuit

Wednesday, January 04, 2017

My new Fitbit got its first swim today! It looks good as far as reporting goes. I'm not certain because I didn't bother counting yardage today. I focused only on keeping my feet off the bottom of the pool for a full 30 minutes. And on my technique--which, to be honest, could stand some improvement. I thought about a lady I haven't seen in over 20 years today, while I sloshed to and fro. I never knew her name, and it's quite possible she is no longer living. Here's what I do know about her: She was quite overweight, older than my mom, and wore the skirted yellow swimsuit and a ruffed white swim cap. She swam slowly, and somewhat awkwardly, in the lane closest to the lifeguard, and seemed completely indifferent to me and my high school classmates who did laps and swim team drills in the rest of the pool. And she was consistently THERE. Every. Damn. Day. Even when I wasn't. I'm not the lithe, strong endurance swimmer I was when I was 16. It's ok. At 42, I would rather emulate the lady in the yellow suit. Her consistency and heart, and cool disregard for all the noisy brats around her are now, more than ever, my inspiration.

I'm jealous you have form. I normally just flail and call it "freestyle."

Totes jealous of your Fitbit, btw. I switched from the Charge to the Alta right before they announced their waterproof line. Ugh!

Anyway. Keep it up! Love the screenshot emoticon emoticon
