I remember years ago going into a book store to browse ... I like to read. A lady came in after me and asked the clerk to help her find the perfect diet book. The clerk pointed out a best seller ... oh, I've read that one. Then the clerk pointed out another book ... oh, I've read that one. As the clerk continued to point out book after book ... the lady responded with ... oh, I've read that one and that one and that one. Finally the clerk looked her straight in the eyes and said ... you have to do more than "read" the book!
I joined the Beck Solution forum and after reading the introduction of Judith Beck's book ... Day 1's assignment is to write down your Advantages to Losing Weight. My first response was ... DUH ... life would be wonderful if allllll this @#$%! weight was gone!!!!
Beck provided a list of benefits in her book ... and after doing some soul searching ... I added things to make my own personal list of Advantages of Losing Weight:
I'll be in better health ... physically and emotionally.
I'll have more energy ... to live my life more fully and do all the things I am missing out on.
I'll feel better ... physically, emotionally and spiritually.
I'll like myself more.
I'll feel more in control of my behaviors and emotional eating.
I'll increase my self-esteem ... feeling at peace with myself.
I'll feel better in my own body.
I'll feel more freedom.
I'll live longer ... to be here longer with my beloved healthy hubby.
My bionic knees will last longer.
I'll be able to wear the clothes I already own.
I'll be able to purge existing clothes and have only the clothes that fit me on hand ... forever. No more multiple sizes ... past, present and future.
I'll be able to wear the clothes I truly like ... no more passing up items coz do I buy it in today's size, next size down coz I "plan" to lose weight or my dream size so I can own it forever.

Not only are you to come up with your own personal reasons for going through the necessary behavior changes to dump the pounds ... you are to read the advantages twice a day every day AND any time sabotaging thoughts come up.
Hmm ... not just reading the book ... or your list ... but truly feeling and living the lesson(s). So it's DOING the right book!!!
No more dieting ... focusing on food.
I'm changing behaviors ... focusing on ME.
