Welcome 2017

Sunday, January 01, 2017

I know this site works and i know it freely offers tons of support, but it won't work unless I use it.

It's like I used to tell my students:

There's nothing the teacher can do which will overcome what the student will not do.

It was actually a poster on the wall of my orthodontist's office 50 years ago...substitute doctor for teacher and patient for student, but it's the same meaning.

So everything is in my hands. I am the only person who can help me. I can get some menial assistance from my family but the bottom line is:

If it's going to be it's up to me.

Nobody forced me to eat or stopped me from exercising. Apparently my desire to stay lazy is stronger than my desire to be healthy.

Your desire to be healthy IS strong. You went and had surgery to help you, you have consistency awards here, and you have lost weight. So maybe you took a little vacation from getting healthy over the holidays...you certainly wouldn't be alone! You CAN do this. You've BEEN doing this!

Wise words. I don't think you are lazy though, change is hard and our biology is even programmed to resist change. Life is busy and we often put ourselves on the back burner and give to others until there is nothing left to look after ourselves. Take it one day at a time, each morning is a fresh beginning and don't be hard on yourself when you haven't accomplished all that you wanted - tomorrow will be a fresh start. Small changes will lead to results.
