I had a very nice Christmas! The Hubs, Bingley and I drove to Richmond, Va, to spend Christmas with my maternal birth family. I love this part of my family: it's where I get my sarcasm, sticktuitiveness, warmth and sense of humor. I fit right in. I had decided before we left that I'd get a pass to a gym near my mom's house instead of bringing workout equipment. This worked out brilliantly! There was a Gold's Gym less than 5 miles from her house, and they opened at 5 am. I could get up at my normal time, go to the gym, get in a nice workout, and be back home in time for breakfast.
We drove down on Friday the 23rd and arrived right around dinner time. We had ham, boiled potatoes and veggies. I ate a reasonable amount of food.
My MIL's plane was late so I drove myself to the gym and paid for a week pass. Since it was the south the college guys manning the desk called me 'ma'am' multiple times, then very politely asked me for my age. I surprised myself with how confident I acted despite feeling some gymtimidation! I paid the $40 for a week (which is probably more than a month costs but whatever) and went back to my mom's. My MIL arrived at 11:47 pm, having been due at 2:55 pm.
Christmas Eve I woke up a few minutes before 6 am, got myself some coffee, changed and grabbed my gym stuff and drove myself over to the gym. I spent a blissful 1hr 20m working out, trying all sorts of machines and using free weights but sticking to a lower body routine. Here's what I did:

I'm not a fan of the recumbent bike. It doesn't keep my heart rate elevated enough. I burned 736 calories.
After the gym I went home and we had waffles and ham for breakfast with fresh berries. Really yummy!

After breakfast we played with the dogs for a while before we headed to my Uncle Mark & Aunt Gaye's house. There was a LOT of delicious food there, and it was rainy so I didn't get a chance to walk around their property, which is large and gorgeous. We hung out for a while and then had dinner. I made sure I took a family photo before we ate.

Dinner was bacon wrapped pork chops, green beans, baby potatoes, stewed apples and tossed salad. Honestly pretty healthy albeit a very large portion. Everything was delicious so I ate all of it. Dessert was turtle cheesecake, chocolate covered peanut brittle and chocolate covered peanuts (it IS Virginia after all). I also enjoyed a glass of stout beer that was aged in bourbon barrels. It was AMAZING. We exchanged gifts afterwards. I was given a gorgeous plaid scarf and a sterling silver bangle bracelet. The Hubs and I also got a $100 gift card to Amazon.com! We drove back home and just relaxed until bedtime.
Christmas day the gym was closed so I just hung out with my mom and helped her make breakfast. We had a casserole made with leftover ham, hash browns, cheddar cheese, sour cream and cream of potato soup. It was REALLY yummy but the portions were large. Then I walked Bingley and Palin and took them to the little dog park in her development. It was very wet because it had rained on Christmas Eve so the dogs got red clay sticky mud all over them and I had to clean them off. Then I helped her work on the food for Christmas dinner, which was roasted brussels sprouts, cauliflower, zucchini and yellow squash, wedge salad with iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, bacon and buttermilk ranch dressing, rolls and her version of Chicken Saltimbocca, which was a chicken breast stuffed with prosciutto and provolone and cooked in a mushroom sherry cream sauce. We also made skinny taco dip, cheesy pull apart bread and rollup sandwiches to snack on. LOTS of food was eaten that evening! My great Aunt Mary also came over and she gave us terracotta plant waterer things that you plug wine bottle into. After dinner we played The Game of Things. The themes this year were dildos and masturbation. That's my family for ya!
Monday I again went to the gym before anyone got up. Today was upper body and here's what I did:

I burned 826 calories in 1h 39m and found I really like the upright bike better.
After the gym we had breakfast and I showered and we took my MIL to the airport before checking out an antique shop not a mile from my mom's house. She wound up getting a big blanket chest, a small accent table, a ceramic sheep, a small Art Nouveau planter for me and a tool box, all for $126! I had to sit on The Hubs lap on the way back so we could fit it all in her car, haha. After that we just hung out for a while and had Chinese food for dinner and watching tv.
Tuesday morning was my last day at the gym and I did a total body workout. Here's what I did:

This was my lowest burn day with 725 calories in 1hr 23m. We had leftover Chinese food after and spent more time with my mom before hitting the road around noon. We got home around 6 pm.
Yesterday I did a very small Pilates abs workout (burned a whopping 47 calories), went back to work and then The Hubs and I headed to my Godmother's house for my adoptive dad's family's Christmas party. We had ham sandwiches and meatballs with pineapple pudding (basically white bread, butter, sugar, eggs and canned pineapple baked like a casserole and made greater than the sum of its parts). There were TONS of delicious cookies and we always do an ornament exchange game which is tons of fun. I spent a lot of time being held still by webs shot at me from a 4 year old pretending to be Spiderman, but I GOT TO HOLD A 9-WEEK OLD PUPPY!
Her name is Ruby and she's a boxer. She'll live on the farm like the line of boxers before her. She slept most of the time until we were just ready to leave then she was up and playing.
Today I'm back at work and trying not to panic about all the things I need to do in the next 30 days. The scale is up a smidge but it's okay. I really do want to join a gym now, though. I wanna deadlift and squat and double my leg presses! We'll see what 2017 brings!
