250 by Turkey Day - Not a New Year's Resolution

Wednesday, December 28, 2016

I know...if it walk like duck. As a general rule, i don't do New Year's resolutions. Everyone I know who makes them has forgotten them by mid-February. I've made them in the past and had the same experience, so I don't bother with them. That said, it is the end of the year, and I have been doing some reflecting, introspecting and re-evaluating. It sure talks like a duck.

Sooo, time to get real about getting to a healthy weight again. The big impetus? 2017 is my 40 year high school reunion. I've been to one previously (15-year). Now there are lots of reasons I haven't gone, but I'd be lying if I said weight weren't one of one of them. Don't bother to scold me. I know I shouldn't let it be an issue, but it is. Of course, I've seen some of my old classmates, and they haven't aged well, so I may just come out ahead on the body image side. Still, it's a good motivator, and they always schedule our reunion for somewhere around Thanksgiving, so there you have it. A reasonable weight loss goal, if a little ambitious, and a clearly definable motivation.

Perspective...I've been hanging in the mid-320s for some time now. I read a great article here on Spark People about the relationship between set points, plateaus and strength training. I'll be looking into that more seriously, and...tracking what I eat again. I'll also be blogging again. The act of writing is something I found to be helpful. Read it or don't. I'll be fine. Have a great 2017, even if you don't make New Year's resolutions.
