Walking in a Winter Wonderland!
Thursday, December 22, 2016
My friend H & I had a great walk along the river yesterday. It was cold, but clear and warmer. We had a massive snow storm a few days earlier. We took both our snow shoes and our yak trax (which are like tire chains for snow boots), and we hiked through snow, slush and ice on the river loop trail. It was magical!
Someone had decorated the trees along the river -- can you see the Christmas ornaments?
The currents were rushing by and the river level was high. We saw great blue heron and mergansers, but they flew away too quickly and I couldn't get a very good photo. The great blue heron is in the middle of the snow across the river (this photo was taken after he flew away and landed on the other side of the river)
This trail is usually easy, 3.5 mile loop, but in the snow and slush it was a hard workout. I am feeling my butt and thigh muscles today!
(I hardly recognize myself with all my winter layers on!)
Merry Christmas to all my friends, and Happy Hanukah to my Jewish friends. (I am Christian and I celebrate Christmas, but my family includes those who celebrate Hanukah). Whichever you celebrate, this is a season for appreciating love, friends, family, and the beauty that surrounds us. Hugs and best wishes for success in reaching your goals in the New Year!
