More carbs, please!

Yesterday, I ate 50 carbs and still managed to register 'trace' amounts of keytones on the keto strip this morning. I've read conflicting info about the number of carbs you can eat to stay in ketosis. The information varies in that the 'guaranteed' to stay in ketosis requirement says you must eat less than 20, 25, or 30 grams of carbs each day. Well, 30 carbs is 33% more carbs than 20 carbs each day. That's A LOT! Especially to a girl who is in perpetual PMS because her period has not show up yet - something that has only happened twice in my 26 years of menstruation, and both times I was preggers. Those of you who are familiar with PMS symptons, you know how desperately your body craves sugar and other carbs when affected by PMS. The struggle is real, folks.
By the way, there is very little danger of pregnancy being the reason for the missed period, mostly because my partner is infertile due to a vasectomy (we hope, dear God). It is far more likely the result of an increase in estrogen due to my body burning fat (estrogen is stored there) while in ketosis.
I am now trying to be as unscientifically scientific as possible about determining the number of carbs my body can have daily and remain in ketosis. Today, I'm going to shoot for 40 or less, and try to stay there over the next several days to see if the ketones I registered this morning was a fluke, or truly indicative of my metabolism allowing for a higher carb intake.
