Moving saga, Part 1

Friday, December 09, 2016

Hi Sparkers,

As most know, I decided I no longer wanted to be a homeowner. I'm nearly 74 and it was getting difficult to keep up with the yard, and I could foresee that it would soon start becoming difficult to keep up with the house. So the decision was made to go to a rental.

I was fortunate in that my house sold in 3 weeks. Unfortunate in that it meant I had a lot to dispose of in some manner in a rather short period of time (considering how much I had accumulated over the years).

So this is just Part 1 where I show you the outside of the old house and the outside of the duplex.

Below are the pictures of my old house, front & back.

This was always deceiving as it appears to be one floor.

Additionally I had 2 sheds, 1 small, 1 very large and both were pretty full.

So I'm now in the process of trying to squeeze all that I retained into the duplex below (side view & front view).

I have the entire left side. There are 4 floors to my duplex. There's a small den & small basement area below ground. The main floor has small living room, regular size dining room, and so-so-sized kitchen.

The next floor has a small "office", 1 teeny bedroom, 1 long & skinny bedroom, and a "TINY HOUSE" bathroom! (I don't dare gain a pound)! That picture will come in another blog.
The attic is quite large and very usable. One of the prior tenants put up steel plumbing bars the entire length of the attic in which to hang clothes. (Much needed...one 2 teeny closets otherwise).

Presently I just have tiny paths in each room because there are boxes everywhere. If I want in the 'fridg, then I move boxes over in front of the sink. If I want in front of the sink, then I move boxes from in front of the oven in order to move boxes from the sink area.

One friend told me to do "a box a day". I said, if I did that, I might be unloading the last box in 2 years!

Well, that's all for today.

Tomorrow I'm going to an auction with a friend for a very special reason and I'll report on that tomorrow.

In the interim, have a wonderful Friday and a fabulous weekend.
Hugs - Gwen

You have a lot of unpacking to do there, Ms. Gwen! I bet you'll discover that you don't need all the stuff you transferred over to the duplex. I see it all the time down here in Naples, Fl. People bring all their stuff & then realize there's no place to put anything. We don't have basements & ya can't keep much in the garage because it will mold. Hubby & I just packed up the car & brought what would fit! Hahaha! We rebought what we needed........& visited the consignment shops & thrift stores to refurnish! It worked for us! Good luck, my dear, in your new place! I wish you all the happiness you deserve!

Gwen...The duplex is fabulous!! Not what I imagined at all. I found unpacking....1 room at a time. Kitchen & Master Bathroom 1st. Then your bedroom....then all the rest as you need.
