The words to the Christmas song are ". . . he knows if you're naughty or nice!"

Be naughty if you want but don't forget to always be NICE, too!

Recently I tried to buy an ebook from Amazon, something I do all the time, but this one wouldn't work. Finally I called customer service and the young lady there tried also. I went through two customer service reps before I finally found someone who gave me a solution. He apologized profusely for all my trouble and thanked me for being so patient. As a reward for my kindness and patience he said he would give me a $10 credit! I said that certainly made the 15 minutes I spent on the phone with them worthwhile. He responded "FIFTEEN MINUTES! For that kind lady I'm giving you a $20 credit instead!" and he did!!

Today I was in J. C. Penny's buying some winter vests. There was a woman at the counter just finishing up her purchase and the man behind her stepped up for his turn. There were three people behind me in the waiting line, all grumbling a bit at the wait.

The clerk at the cash register was answering her phone and her walkie talkie while trying to wait on customers. A clerk from another department came by and asked for her help with something she couldn't figure out and the woman who had completed her purchase earlier came back and said she had been charged twice for one item.

The poor clerk apologized to her and to all of us in line, saying she had been called in unexpectedly and hadn't had her coffee this morning. I spoke up and said, "You know this is your life between now and Christmas", lol. Everyone in line laughed and the mood changed.

When I finally got to make my purchase, the clerk rang up my purchases and told me the total and then she said, "Oh, and you have that coupon on your phone!" I was confused. I had no coupon. She leaned over and whispered, you get $10 off for being so understanding."

Remember the retail clerks and food service workers this season. They are all stressed. And 'tis the season to be NICE!

You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar! Bringing a smile to the face of another person isn't hard and it makes the world a much better place. Well done!

Wow! It's so wonderful to find some thoughtful kind people in the world like you Karen. I to realize that the people who work in the service industry are just doing their job, if the line is long or someone is rude I try to be extra nice to the clerk. I used to be a cashier at a department store; it's not easy and a lot of times at Christmas we didn't even get a bathroom break. Many times if I'm in the checkout and the person behind me only has a few things I let them go in front of me. But your kindness got you some sweet rewards! How wonderful! Christmas spirit indeed. The whole world would be a better place if there were more people like you!

Karen, how wonderful that you are so understanding and empathetic. Instead of making situations worse, you use insight and humor to make things better. That is a true Christmas spirit you are sharing!
