I want to give up!

I just read an article about what to do when you just can't lose weight and well my thyroid issue is the problem I'm having with not being able to reach my goal weight of 135lbs. I started this journey three years ago. I weighed 250lbs on a 5'4" frame. Now I'm around 180lbs and keep losing and gaining the same 10lbs. My question is: what is the point of having a goal if you're never going to be able to achieve it due to a medical problem? I won't give up my new healthy lifestyle of eating basically a low carb meal plan and exercising 5× a week but maybe I need to rethink my goal. And just be happy that I'm healthy and it doesn't matter what the scale says. For healthy, maybe it is different for everyone. Me with an under active thyroid maybe healthy isn't just being a size 6. But healthy as in: I'm no longer a pre diabetic. I no longer take blood pressure medicine. And I no longer take cholesterol medicine. My only disappointment is that I may never have the body on the outside that matches the health on the inside. I just need to get used to this idea. Thank you for reading!

    I was 257 in January 2006 and went down to 201 by January 2007. I joined Sparkpeople January 25, 2007 and was so happy to see 199 finally. I joined a team whose goal was to drop to 190 then 180. I would get so frustrated with myself when I would see other members acheiving their goals. Then I found the Slowest Loser team and reached 183 after two more years. I learned that I have to find happiness in just being anywhere below 200 by "never giving up"! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

    You are doing so great. You are no longer pre-diabetic, off cholesterol, and blood pressure meds. I's say you are very healthy. Keep dong what you are doing. Glad you will continue with your healthy eating and exercising. emoticon emoticon emoticon

    Being healthy is the best goal of all. It's also about how you feel. I bet you feel a lot better exercising 5x a week than not!

    Congratulations on making such wonderful strides in your health. I am where you were when you started, about 250 lbs on a 5'3" frame with some of the same health issues. I know at my age, 60 years old, I will never be the 138 lbs that my name indicates but I WILL become the healthier person I want to be because I will continue this journey until my health goals are reached, no matter what my end weight ends up being. So the moral of this response it to never give up. Weight is just a number, your health is what really matters.

    Sometimes it can be hard when that number doesn't match what we want, but you have achieved such wonderful benefits this far.. perhaps a chat with your doctor to re evaluate your end goals. Please hang in there and celebrate how much you have achieve

    Your Endocrinologist may recommend a nutritionist or a change in your synthroid( for example the generic does not work as well for my husband) .Sorry for the long post. Hope this helps!

    Your improvements in other areas of health is a win, so never give up. If you are logging your food and exercise daily do a printout and take it to your endocrinologist the next time you have an appointment for your thyroid. Explain what's going on
