A Cry of Victory!
Sunday, October 30, 2016
This is not a rant, but a cry of victory! This morning at 4:15 AM, I received a call from the guard at our ministry office that there had been an explosion on the third floor and that fire trucks were on site. I quickly grabbed my sleeping 7 year old daughter and headed that way. Of course it would happen on this night, a severe storm, roads are flooding and lightening is streaking the skies. All I could say as I was making my way, "Really, God, really?" It was the culminating event of a challenging week!
Earlier in the week, all on one night, my master air-conditioner popped and stopped working, my daughter was violently throwing up and fighting a high fever, and the toilet broke, flooding the bathroom and part of the bedroom. The next morning I discovered that Remi had locked my underwear drawer, hid the key in a treasure map, which I had accidentally thrown away and already put in the garbage chute. Yes, go ahead and laugh, but that drawer is pretty important. I had to laugh, also, to keep from collapsing into a pile of tears as I shifted through hundreds of garbage bags to find our bag and then go through my garbage bag to find the small key to unlock my treasure of underwear.
Living in a third world country on my own, while my husband gets medical care for my ten year old daughter in Houston, Texas is not what I had signed up for. I was really quite angry as I was driving to our building and the scalding hot tears flowed!
Arriving at our building, I was relieved to discover that it was just a breaker that had exploded and that the damage was minimal, thanks to our quick acting guard. I had to praise God as I drove back home. Things could have been so much worse!
Today, the sun is shining and so begins a new week. It would have been so easy to give in to the frustration of all that happened last week, but at the end of the day, I can still see how blessed I am. My air-con will be repaired later next week after the holiday, but at least I have another room I can sleep in, the maintenance engineer was able to repair my broken toilet and even helped me to clean up the mess, my daughter has fully recovered from her virus and I did find the key to my underwear drawer!
Today I claim victory and peace!
