Does SparkPeople Work?

Friday, October 28, 2016

You can look at the success stories and tell that SparkPeople does indeed work.

Perhaps the question should really be "Will SparkPeople work for me"?

I have been a member for 10 years and am now heavier than when I started. But I still believe SparkPeople has been a positive influence. Without SparkPeople I would be even heavier than I am now. So in that sense, SparkPeople has already worked to limit my weight gain during stressful times during the last 10 years including my cancer, my husband's two deployments, and at one time having four teenagers- all girls.

But can I make SparkPeople work for its primary goal of healthy weight loss? The answer is yes.

I cannot control how fast the weight goes away, but I can control how many times a week I exercise and what foods I choose to eat. Recording those walks and foods in the SparkPeople trackers gives me an incentive to keep exercising and eating right.

Just wanted to say, the safest amount of weight to lose a week according to the medical establishment is 1 to 2 pounds a week at most. That way you don't abuse or confuse your body, and are more likely to keep it off.

Like everything you get out what you put in. We are here with you. I am pretty new to SP but very familiar with a lifetime of yo-yo dieting. I believe this is the beat commu ity I have ever seen for support, advice, and encouragement.

I really like your perspective. I know so many people that would just give up, instead of seeing the positive side of things.

I so agree with you that SparkPeople is only an incentive and we have to make the better choices. I always said that one size fits all isn't a true statement. Meaning use the tools on Spark that fit you and know what does not work here for you including their recommended calorie count.

SparkPeople works if you do the work. This isn't aimed at "you." You've obviously had tons on your plate to deal with, and everybody's idea of success is different anyway. The bottom line though, is that even SparkPeople isn't a magic pill. It is a successful 'tool' to help you get the results you are looking for, but only you can do the work.
