Endoscopy and the Cough

Tuesday, October 25, 2016

I've had a rough week so far in that I was awake half the night coughing both Sunday and Monday nights. This morning, I emailed my boss around 6 a.m. to say I needed a couple more hours of sleep but I would make up the time and went into work late.

I also saw my family doctor today to get the results of my endoscopy. The good news is that the biopsy and scan showed no problems whatsoever. Great (she says with heavy sarcasm)! Still no diagnosis for the cough I've had for 19 months. emoticon

He says to keep taking the acid reflux pills to see if they help at all and in the meantime, I'm to take 1g of my medicinal marijuana before bed to see if it will help me sleep through the night without coughing. The medicinal marijuana, by the way, that he wouldn't prescribe for me and I had to find another doctor who would so interesting that he's advising me on the use of it.

I've been using medicinal marijuana since July and it is really amazing how effective it is for pain relief, anxiety relief and insomnia. The main one I take for pain relief takes effect in less than a couple of minutes. It's really pretty awesome. Who'd ever thunk back in the day that the stuff that made me so high could actually be used medicinally, too?

If the acid reflux pills and the MMJ at bedtime don't help with the cough, I don't know what I'm going to do next. My doctor said he's out of ideas. Maybe a naturopath?

Hugs to you, Joanna. I hear your frustration in your writing about your cough and it sounds like you feel about at your wits end! I would be too! What about the side effect of any of your meds.? I'm on Xeljanz, and one of the side effects is cold-like symptoms and I have them. A raspy throat, a weaker voice, more stuffy and more of a cough, especially at night. I take Claritin D 24-hour also, and that helps. I also take half of a sleeping pill, and that helps. Last night I slept like a baby. Also, I need to tell you that a friend of ours, ended up 2 nights in the hospital and had a lot of tests done and her acid reflux, coughing went into pneumonia, and to make a long story short, they discovered that she was allergic to the Lyrica, that she's on. Just a thought and I'm sure you've looked into these, but maybe it could help you. Also, my Rheumy says he'll look into prescribing medicinal marijuana for me, for covering all that daily pain that the Xeljanz can't reach. Yay! He's already been prescribing it to others!! What a blessing this could be for us. I wish you well!! emoticon emoticon

Hugs, hope they find an answer for that cough. Have you tried aroma therapy at night? I purchased a jar of sinus relief and Eucalyptus mint and open one of the jars before I go to sleep. Seems to help me. Below is the web site.

Your Dr.is a hypocrite. Maybe it is time for alternate therapies. The pot is good for all those things, but won't allow you to sleep through the night without coughing, it seems?
A Naturopath will look at a whole body cure. They do really deep investigation. Most illnesses begin and end in the gut so likely testing will be the first step. It was discovered I was missing some key 'good' gut bacteria which is common in people with RA. So I am on a four month therapy to replace them. Expensive and hard to source it, but hopefully will be worth it. Major change in diet though as she wants me to go vegan, gluten, dairy, soy, corn, eggs and sugar free making it a struggle to get my protein in. An elimination diet to eventually add things back in one at a time to see if I react to anything. Food sensitivities can't be tested for in people on immunosuppressant drugs. So you have to do it the old fashioned way.
It can't hurt. Seeing CATHOLICCORGI send her RA into remission through diet is encouraging.
