18 Guideposts for Your Personal Journey
For this weekend's challenge, we have been challenged to do some introspection on our weight loss journey. These are the first 4 of mine:
1. It’s okay to struggle, it’s okay to wear (and own) your imperfections, and to fall flat on your face – as long as you keep reaching out for support and maintaining the courage to put one foot in front of the other. Who can you reach out to for support? Are they positive?
My husband Phil is supportive now that he realizes that eating unhealthy foods makes my blood pressure as WELL as my weight go up. And my BLC team (and other SparkFriends) can always be counted on for support!!
2. Actions speak louder than words. How can you apply this statement to your weight loss or maintenance?
I am in maintenance, and I’ve learned I have to do certain actions to control my weight. Things like drinking over 8 glasses of water a day, eating more than 5 freggies a day, getting in SOME exercise each day, getting in 7 (preferably more) hours of sleep a night… these healthy habits have become routine and are NECESSARY!
3. Learn to say no as much as you say yes. Less is more. Replace “Could I do more?” with “Would I like to do more?” Ask yourself this question and follow through.
This has been very important to my journey. I’ve learned that once you have reached your goal weight (often even before you reach it), friends feel its fine to push food on you. I hear things like “you don’t need to lose any more weight – its ok to have this.” No I don’t need to lose more weight, but if I eat any and everything I will GAIN weight! And I've worked to hard losing the weight to want to go through this again!
4. Mistakes are powerful gifts. Don’t leave the lessons within them concealed – gently unwrap a mistake to gain the wisdom within its rough exterior. What mistakes have you made and what did you learn from them and how can you keep them from happening again?
This is SO TRUE and SO POWERFUL! Not only in weight loss but in all of life. I gained and lost many, many pounds before learning the lesson my body had been trying to tell me all those years – don’t do ANYTHING to lose weight that you can’t do for the rest of your life. This is NOT a diet (like all those other times) this is how I must eat and exercise for the rest of my life. Talk about a light bulb moment – that really was one!
ok - I'll be back tomorrow with my next four answers!
