Day Eight of Fall 2016 Beck Trek

Create Time & Energy

Wow, this is a biggie. Beck asks that we plan out our days and put in time for mindful eating, food shopping and prep and exercise. If we need to cut back on some other activities, so be it.

It's scary to see how much time these activities take. My first knee jerk sabotaging thought is that there just is not enough time to plan for eating and exercise.

There isn't if I don't cut back on other activities. This means less computer and television time. Maybe that's a good thing. I'm not much for television but I've gotten hooked on following the presidential campaign. I will benefit by scheduling my healthy activities and cutting back on my news addiction.

I do focus my time on my nutrition and it doesn't actually take that much time: eating the same stuff over and over, stream-lined tracking.

Not so great about the exercise, frankly: but did play golf yesterday and heading to the gym today.

I think I waste a lot of time thinking about the time it takes rather than just doing it. Lol

Just commit to doing something and do it. Stop overthinking! That's what I tell myself. I take cues from what I consider a flaw in some (DH) for example, consider it top priority and second to everything else...without guilt and complications I dream up in my thoughts. I've finally convinced myself, post injury, that even a "simple" walk is healthy movement and I don't HAVE to run to make it count. That's me always over thinking, irrational, self sabotaging, etc... Concerted effort on nutrition and the flipping mind games much needed.

Whew! Did I need a good talking to myself! Sorry. Thanks for calling this to mind and sharing your space. All with kind intention. emoticon emoticon

It takes a lot of time and energy, I find. I am not trying to do everything this Beck round, and will add layers of improvement in the future. I have put time and energy into my exercise, and have a daily, monthly, seasonally and yearly plan, which takes very little time to tweak occasionally. I eventually will get there with my nutrition as well (still resisting saying dieting :) ).

You could always schedule walking in place while watching TV - I do that to "top up" my miles at the end of the day.

You'll be a lot less stressed if you make this a priority, seriously... a good reminder to myself as well! emoticon

I find this challenging too as I am alone a minimum of almost 10 hours a day 5 days a week 10 miles from the closest real town. T.V. and computer time are my connection to the world so they are an important part of my day. I have cut back on them and am off the internet by 7 pm and often earlier. I don't usually watch T.V. past 9. I used to watch a lot of news, mostly bad news, but after reading one of Andrew Weil's books I weaned myself off of it. I'm happier now.

I struggle with finding time as well, I'm afraid. :(

You can always walk in place (ala Leslie Sansone) while watching TV.

Yes. It does take time. For years, sabotaging thoughts like "I don't have time for this." kept me from making any changes. I wasn't ready to let other things go because I had not made my health and well-being a priority. Once my health and well-being truly became a priority, it has been much easier for me to say "no" to other things.

It does take a lot of time but it is worth it. If you had a life threatening disease, you would do what it takes to get well. Obesity leads to life threatening disease. Reframing it that way made it much easier for me to find the time. You can do it.
