Fidgeting in your seat

I was looking for obscure ways to help me out losing weight and keeping it off, I read that by tapping your legs you can burn up to 600 calories in 8 hours. So I'm going to at least try and see how it goes. Anyone ever try it? If so do you think there were any truths behind the article I read. I'm not going to record it as exercise, but looking for anything that will help me lose and keep off the weight.

    Yes it is true. I saw a documentary 20 years ago about this very thing. They did a study on a reservation. I remember vividly a pair of siblings. The guy was always moving his arms hands, feet tapping or jiggling his legs. the sister didn't.

    Oh I fidget, to be able to remain in my seat, ha! Not sure how many calories it burns, yet I do believe moving beats not moving. I am also in the camp it doesn't burn many calories. Sigh...To change our life we have to change. A fast paced job, coworkers close, no breaks...yow, so many constraints. I think you have the right idea, you need to move. Roll with that, look at what you could do through out the day to move...ultimately it helps your health and the quality of your work. We are a work in progress, you can do this!

    I would love a sit-stand type desk, I think it would help me.I do drink about 64 to 96 oz of water at work because that does allow me to move around, plus I print out paperwork, that don't have to be printed out to help get me steps.

    I have a sit-stand desk at work - I got it because of back issues and it REALLY helps with breaking up the sitting. I drink a lot of water at work, and that helps ensure that I get up and walk down the hall to the bathroom regularly, LOL!

    You need to take occasional breaks, even fast paced environments should allow it. This of course is from a type A who worked like that for years, until the old body hollered STOP! LOL

    Sounds doubtful to me but doing other things like butt squeezes and ab crunches help tone the muscles discreet exercises that can be done sat at your desk help but don't replace a good exercise regime.

    I did find a floor bicycle that will fit easily under my desk, for about 30 dollars. That is worth looking into

    Yeah I tried a one week experiment, and yeah I don't believe you burn that many calories, plus I share a desk with another person, they weren't excited about it, as from time to time the desk would shake a little bit, overall complete bust.

    Sure the constant movement will burn some calories but can you consistently tap your feet for 8 hours straight and even if you did I doubt you'll lose 600 calories as someone mentioned running for 15 minutes only burns 100. I know when I log swimming freestyle/crawl for an hour it tells me I burned about 600 calories and swimming is more of a workout then tapping your foot. Of course you can try it out, it'll work out your calf muscles at least.

    I think you need to run a good 15 mins to lose around 100 calories. I don't think tapping your leg will give you a calorie loss of 600. HAHAHAHAHA

    Unfortunately, with my job I can't get up in jog in place, I work in a fast pace job, that won't allow for that, and I don't get lunch but work straight 8+ hours. I think you are right about being sore, but I at least want to give it a go

    It would take hours and may cause foot problems with that repetitive action. I would suggest if you have a sitting job, try to get up every hour and jog in place for 5 minutes, 4 times a day. You will lose that way and it will give you energy as well. Good luck
