(In)Constant Craving

Friday, September 23, 2016

I realized that it takes me about 21 days to get rid of cravings entirely. I don't crave anything. I don't crave sugar. I don't crave junk food. I used to think it took two weeks for that, but turns out it's three.

Don't get me wrong, I will still get kind of out-of-control hungry, where my body very suddenly demands food, but it's definitely hunger...not cravings.

It makes me wonder if craving is just a habit. If it's biological, where is the switch in my brain that turned it off?

I'm in pretty much the same place.
Which is odd, because I never thought I would be. I just accepted cravings as something I'd have to learn to resist, etc...

Maybe it's partially due to having meal planning in place means I'm thinking a lot less about food than I was before?
Or maybe having more balanced fuel (more protein and fat than I was consuming regularly before) my body isn't telling me I need stuff?

    Either way, I'm grateful.

That's great! 21 days, eh? Hm. I was pretty free of cravings while in the loss phase, when I basically treated snack-type foods, sweets etc as if they were cat food or something - nothing to do with me. In maintenance I can reintroduce such things, in controlled portions... And it actually makes things harder for me. 21 days, hmmm.

Oh, I'm good. The point of the blog is...I have no cravings. Zero. Nothing.

I'm at the point where I often have to force myself to eat.

Occasionally, I will get hungry, but I don't crave things- anything anymore. It's both good and bad, I guess.

For me adding more protein to my diet helps to cub cravings. I make my own trail mix in snack size Ziploc bags for the week. 2 TBSP sunflower seeds, 1/4 cup almonds & and a tiny snack size box of raisins. When I feel a craving/hunger and know it's not time to eat I'll grab one of my pre-made snack bags and it helps me out a ton.

Maybe it can help you too. Cravings are the devil!!
