5 to 10 percent - I have a new goal!

I finally asked my doctor what it would take for me to go off of my medication. She said 5-10 percent weight reduction. Hmm. Her math was a little off, and she suggested that it could take a year or two.
I believe that 5 percent is possible before my next check in January and 10 percent by the following check in May.
What am I doing to make that goal achievable?
Walking - in fact I've walked both yesterday and today
Focus on healthful foods - I've been working on this already, so not an abrupt change
Focus on what I can do, not bemoaning my lack of stamina or what I can't do YET
