The scare was real! I was nearly certain it was a heart attack...excruciating shoulder pain (a friend recently had a heart attack and the main symptom was shoulder pain), inability to take a good breath, heaviness in the chest. Off to the ER I go! EKG, blood work, Stress test, two days in the hospital and good news...it isn't my heart!

This was quite the wake up call! I have a pretty significant family history of heart issues so it's nothing to play around with if I want to be around for my family. This really scared me. Never mind the doctors annoyed me with the usual fat woman speeches and recommendations that I seriously consider "the surgery". I knew I had to do something and it needed to start immediately. While awaiting discharge, I made a plan and I'm going at it full force.

It is a no frills plan, just what I have known all along works. I have to make it work for me...forever! Fix my eating habits to eliminate ridiculous foods that not only make me unhealthy but make me feel awful. Increase the foods that will nourish my body and make me feel better. Fresh fruits and vegetables, fish, eggs, nuts, whole grains...the good stuff! And for crying out loud, get moving!!! I used to go on 30 mile bike rides just for fun. Now, I can barely ride a mile without becoming winded. Walking has been my plan, now it is fully implemented. A walk during lunch hour AND a walk in the evening. Farther and longer each day, even if only a few steps more.

Plan, plan, plan, plan...it is the ONLY way to accomplish what I have set out to do. I'm planned out a month in advance now and can adjust it as necessary. Yes, there is a business trip in there and I will figure it out and make it work while I'm gone. Yes, there is a long weekend get away too...I will feel better by then, even though it is a few weeks away, because I will have been moving so I will be able to tolerate long walks and sight seeing.

I am really looking forward to making myself better and showing them I do not need surgery to be well.
