Day 15 of 30 Personal Challenge

Friday, September 02, 2016

With two weeks of my personal challenge behind me, I'm ready to start Week 3 with some new resolve.

This personal challenge has proved to be, well, challenging. I have struggled to curb my appetite, especially for carbs. Part of the problem has been that I haven't been cooking as much. Having prepared, portioned and balanced meals at the ready is what helps me stay on track. If I don't have a quick go-to, I tend to eat whatever is on hand, which is usually not what I need to be eating. This week has shown me that I need that preparation in order to be consistent in my eating. My daily calorie intake has been all over the map, but in the end, it came out to be close to my BMR calories. Not enough of a deficit, even with exercise, for any weight loss, but at least no gain! Here are the results:

Starting Weight - Aug 18 (18/08) 146 lbs
Week 1 (+ 7) - 25/08: 146 lbs Cardio: 544 Strength: 6 Pers Challenge: 34/34
Week 2 (+14) - 01/09: 146 lbs Cardio: 139 Strength: 0 Pers Challenge: n/a

I didn't set any specific targets for my Personal Challenge, other than to track everything, try to eat within range and do gentle exercise like walking and stretching. Good news is that there's no gain. But there is no loss either. For every week that I don't lose any weight, my target date reaches further out into the future. I'm not too happy about that, of course, but I do appreciate that I'm not gaining back any weight.

I also have to consider that it's been nearly 3 months since I started to focus on weight loss, since the start of the Summer BL challenge on June 9th. It is hard to sustain the efforts needed to be successful. I know that we need to aim for a lifestyle change, so that we keep the weight off in the long term. Old habits die hard, as we all know. I have certainly had ups and downs, but the general trend is that I've eaten fewer calories, and fewer carbs than I was pre-Challenge. I am still not in a place, though, where I feel like I have accepted that this is the way I'll have to eat for the rest of my life. Perhaps this is normal, since 3 months is just a blip in time, when you consider the years and years of health habits we're trying to overcome.

Here's to the beginning of a new week, a new slice of time and new opportunities to tame those habits!

Good luck, fellow Sparkers!

emoticon I agree with pre-planning the food . That is why I am making my own veggie stock - its easy can be frozen in different portion sizes for easy healthy meal prep .
I have Wilson Disease - too much copper in my body its rare - so meal prep is imperative. I don't always have the results in scale that I wish emoticon but I feel great ! Non Scale Victories are just as important as scale victories .
I agree gardens are a great works - Off to Florida - thanks for reading my blog !
