Running Through September

Thursday, September 01, 2016

First off, how the hell is it already September?!

Anyway, I wanted to talk about running today. I've been saying for awhile now that I need to sign up for something longer than a 5K because I need something to train for. When I run on my own, I generally run 2-3 miles. When I run with the group on Saturdays, I up it to maybe 4, 5 max. I figured signing up for a fall 10K would be perfect. It'd force me to run more than my lazy self usually wants to do.

Then this relay race came along and so now I'm on a relay team and my leg will probably be 7 miles. A 10K is only 6! Why am I signing up for something longer?! Ha.

So, bottom line, I need to start running. This week in boot camp has been SO MUCH CARDIO it's killing me but I suppose it's good for me.

Saturday I'm going to do the group run and I'm planning to do at least 5 miles. The relay isn't until the first weekend in November so I have time to build up mileage slowly. Even 5 is a stretch right now since I don't think I've done that in a couple of months.

September plan now includes at least one weeknight run a week of at least 3 miles, and one long weekend run starting with 5 miles this weekend and working my way up about a half a mile each week.

Sep 3 - 5 miles
Sep 10 - 5.5 miles
Sep 17 - 3.1 miles (since I already signed up for a 5K!)
Sep 24 - 6 miles
Oct 1 - 6.5 miles
Oct 8 - 7 miles
Oct 15 - 7.5 miles
Oct 22 - 7.5 miles
Oct 29 - 7 miles
Nov 5 - RACE!

On the upside, at least the weather should cool down and make it slightly more pleasant to run in.

Great planning! I'm always amazed at how much fitter I feel when it's not scorching hot weather!
