800 calorie blood sugar diet - Round 2

Wednesday, August 31, 2016

I have completed the planned 8 weeks on this diet to see if it did what it promised which was to greatly improve blood sugar readings, reduce medication and, in some case, reverse diabetes completely. It also has the benefit of weight loss, in some cases rapid and big results, though not for me and that was not my aim. After 8 weeks my results are:-

Now weigh - started at 79.2 now 75.3 Total loss 9 lbs
Official HBA1c 6.6 (was 8.1)
Cholesterol down to 3.7 from 4.1
Triglycerides down to 1.21 from 1.50
Insulin 26 units (down from 37 units)
Medication, reduced Glyclzide from 90 mg to 60 mg

When I started this I set myself 2 main goals.
Number 1 to reduce my HBA1c from 8.1 to 7.0. It is now 6.6.
Daily home testing results were 190 wanted to get to 120 - now down to 90 or 95.
Weight: wanted to lose 3 kg and have lost 4 kg.

For me this diet has done what it promised so I am continuing for a further 8 weeks at the same level (800 calories) and sticking to the low carbohydrate principles. Since finishing I have had a break with visitors and several meals out. I have stayed true to the low carb but I have had more calories and rather too much wine. As a consequence I have gained 1 kg or 2lbs.

I started back on this plan yesterday and have already lost 1 lb of what I gained so I am starting with a new weight and new goals.

Today I weigh 76.3 kg or 167.5 lbs
Weight loss goal 3 kg or 6.5 lbs
Morning blood glucose 104 or 5.7 (depending on which measure you use) so not trying to lower that but maintain
HBA1c was 6.6 and I want it to be 6.00 when I have my next check up with my doctor.

Looking forward to a successful and delicious adventure into changing my life as a diabetic.

Should also have said, if you want any more info from me just ask. I am such an evangelist about this that I would go on the streets and tell people about it, shout it from the roof. So don;t think you are bothering me, just be more specific and I will mail you privately, I am already speaking to a couple of people who did in and sent me messages and questions. It is such a vast area that I cannot tell you all about it in one go. Ask and I will help.

Hi 11Lyondad and Healthnow. If you want to know a little bit more you can read my blogs 800 calorie blood sugar diet - day 1 and day 2 as they explain the diet and give an idea of what I am eating. Some days I have given recipes and others I have posted photos of my meals. You will just have to read a few and maybe my result days. If you want to follow the diet you can log onto which explains 3 diet plans, the 800 calorie, the Mediterranean diet and then the 5:2 diet where you eat Med for 5 days and fast for 2 days. There is lots of info but I think they want you to buy the book.

You can also read some of the forum posts. Some weight losses are fantastic with people losing 20 lbs in 3 weeks, we post our meals, our goals, there are recipes etc. and you can ask questions. We have people from England, me from France, some from American and Australia so it is not just an English diet plan.

One or 2 people have reported going to their doctors and being taken off medication. Being told they are no longer considered diabetic. I must say most of these are people with pre-diabetes or have only had diabetes for a year or two. I think for me it is going to take a lot longer but this is a life change not a diet. I have reduced my insulin by nearly 50% and stopped one of my tablets. There are some doctors or nurses who have been very dismissive and told us to stop doing it but we have all seen improvements in our health. Lower blood pressure, cholesterol, triglycerides, blood glucose of course and weight loss. Anyway, in my opinion I think it is worth going on a diet and being a bit hungry if we can stop the constant increase in our drug regimes. I do not now believe diabetes is a progressive illness that can only get worse. I think it can eventually be cured and my doctor is on board with me and using me as a guinea pig as he knows if there is a chance of change I have the strength of will to do it.

Hi Fountofblessing, so glad you got the book, is it the Dr Michael Mosley one. I know there are a few around based on the same principles. It is all good news and the medical profession in the UK are starting to catch on though some are still resistant to change.

    Thanks Elriddick, Kristimonny and Cherylhurt.

Health-now and 11Lyondad, I will point you to my exact blogs when I go into detail so you don't have to read through everything. Give me a couple of hours to do that.

Fabulous! I got the book and I'm doing the same diet. Not really following the recipes, just making my own low carb meals and tracking them in the nutrition tracker. Finally a diet i can follow 100%!!
