I'm reading a really good book these days called Extreme Transformation by Chris and Heidi Powell (the trainers on Extreme Body Makeover) and I am really enjoying it. The eating plan consists of carb-cycling, which I've found to be filling and easy so far. What I love most about the book though, is the depth that the Powell's delve into holding yourself accountable. This means-
KEEPING THE PROMISES WE MAKE TO OURSELVES.
It was a huge wake-up call to realize that I've proven myself completely untrustworthy...to myself. How many times have I said "I promise I will get on track tomorrow?" Or "I promise I will eat perfectly every day!" Or "I definitely will workout every single day!" Too many times to count. But how many times have I kept those promises? Never....at least not for long.
I had to ask myself, "Would you break that many promises to your best friend? To your husband? Your children?" Of course not. I pride myself in being a trustworthy person in life, but I had to confront the reality that I'm not trustworthy to the one person who needs to matter the most...ME.
What I learned from the book is that I need to KEEP the promises I make to myself, because every single time I break a promise, I lose my integrity. I tell myself I will make changes and get healthy, but even I don't believe it DEEP DOWN. So while I'm eating well, tracking all of my calories and nutrients and exercise into My Fitness Pal, I'm REALLY focusing on keeping promises to myself.
Here are the promises I've made to myself so far:
1.) I will follow the eating plan.
2.) I will track everything I eat and drink.
3.) I will walk on the treadmill at a HR of 120+ for 10 minutes six days a week.
I know the exercise seems small, but a.) I have 100 pounds to lose and b.) I need to make promises to myself that I KNOW I can and will keep. Ten minutes is realistic for me right now, rather than promising to walk for an hour every day...which I know will become yet another broken promise.
I'm finding that I really do feel better when I know I am being kind and honest with myself and holding myself accountable by keeping my promises. It makes me feel like I am headed in the right direction, which is ALWAYS a good thing!
What are some promises you all are making for yourselves recently and are KEEPING????
We can do this y'all....we can do this!!!
