August 10, 2016 SPEAKING OUT
If only we could remember one thing when we are about to say something we shouldn't. If only we could remember what the consequences would be from our words. Many times we think we shouldn't hold things inside because it is not healthy. Many believe we should speak our minds and get things out in the open. That is true to a point; however, the words we say should always be pleasing and kind because evil and lies do not help the situation at all.
Psalm 34:13 "Then keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies!" (NLT)
Dear Lord, help us and give us wisdom when we speak out. We know things sometimes need to be said but we need the spiritual wisdom to know when to say it, how to say it and what to say. Help our pride not to get in the way so we are speaking evil about others. Help us never to lie to get ahead or to blame others. Remind us to watch our words and think before we speak so we are saying what is pleasing to You. In Jesus' name. Amen.
When we keep our focus on God, He will help us with the right words to say.
Spreading lies and speaking evil will never set a godly example to others.
Despite what others have said or done to us, that doesn't give us permission to speak evil and lies about them.
There is a saying about sticks and stones breaking bones but words never hurting. Well they do when we speak evil and lies.
We are to watch our words so they will be uplifting and encouraging rather than getting us and others into trouble.
Proverbs 21:23 "Watch your tongue and keep your mouth shut, and you will stay out of trouble." (NLT)
Focus: Praying before speaking will help us to remember not to speak evil or tell lies.
