Digging out from the hole I've got myself into

It's been a while that I've blogged about anything, I've been so busy that I haven't bothered to make the time.
I haven't been doing well with both my diet and exercise at all. As a lot of you know I am a full-time registered nurse and I work midnights. I've been doing this for about a year now. The shift has been awful on my body. When I'm not working, I'm usually exhausted and crabby. My family has totally noticed this change. I am usually a very happy, easy going person so this has been hard on everyone.
I have been working on changing this. I knew the first thing that I needed to do was to change to day shift. I knew that I did not want to continue working on my unit due to poor management. I began looking elsewhere. I have been fortunate enough to find multiple daytime positions available. I have went on a few interviews and was offered three positions. I've never been in that situation, so it was a fantastic feeling. In the end I chose a position in hematology/oncology. I'm so excited to be working in oncology as I have experience with it when my mom had breast cancer (she is a 12 year survivor!!) At the end of the day it will be truly gratifying to work with these patients. I start my new job on the 22nd. The best news is that it is Mon-Fri day shift with no weekends or holidays. I have missed so much with the family due to my work schedule and am super excited to be able to be available for the family and their multiple activities.
Now before I start my new job, I am actually on vacation for two weeks! I plan on using this time to do many things including getting the house in order, readjusting my sleep schedule back to normal nighttime sleep and getting more focused on diet and exercise. I will say that one thing I have been better about is drinking more water. I've always struggled with this but during a recent blood draw my potassium was up and I knew it was because I was dehydrated. The redraw showed that my numbers were normal.
I had also took this vacation because we our having our bathroom done. This should be quite an adventure. We have a contractor working on it. It's definitely something we couldn't do on our own. My hubby and I can't even agree on tile! I think we are going to go look again on Tuesday, wish me luck!! I can't wait until the bathroom is done.
I look forward to all the new things going on in my life and I just want to feel normal again. Thanks so much for reading my blog.
