Hubby and I are ... frugal. We utilize our public library to the nth degree ... checking out books and movie videos. The only down size is we are behind the times of new releases.
I just watched The Lady in the Van with Maggie Smith based on a true story of Miss Mary Shepherd/Margaret Fairchild who lived in her van for 15 years in Alan Bennett's driveway in London.
Without giving away the whole story ... to those who are behind the times too ...what struck me was the misunderstandings ... in my opinion.
Mary/Margaret is a gifted pianist who at one point in her life tried to become a nun. Her natural gift of playing the piano is very much frowned upon due to her pride, self-confidence and the way she communicates becomes an obstacle for her to continue her plight of becoming a nun.
Her brother not understanding Mary/Margaret's idiosyncrasies has her institutionalized.
After escaping the institute, Mary/Margaret believes she has hit a motorcyclist with her van and killed him. Not asking any questions or confirming her concerns ... she lives the next 15 years in fear in a van.
Mary/Margaret did not ensure that her fears were correct nor did others adequately communicate their opinions of her actions and behaviors. Therefore ... misunderstandings.
How unfortunate many of us are "living in a van" with misconceptions, misguided thoughts and stuck in our own ruts of unhealthy coping skills.
The road back to health and fitness is a bumpy road for everyone ... in my opinion.
We each take the road we believe will get us to our goals ... in my opinion.
SparksPeople is a community of sparkers who want to share, support and learn from each other ... in my opinion.
Let's get out of the van and live the best life we can.
Change your mind ... and the rest will follow.
