When the dog you love needs you, you step up - even with the act of stepping up physically hurts.

I am wholly consumed with our little Olive. She injured her back doing something completely innocent. After two trips to the emergency room last week, she was admitted to the animal hospital. An MRI revealed another severely ruptured disc in her spine. Again? How can this be? Ahhhh my poor girl!
She did well during surgery, and thank goodness, is finally home after almost a week in the hospital. My husband and I are so thankful for the loving care and excellent knowledge of the pet hospital staff. Even they couldn't stand to see her in so much pain.
And now the long road ahead for Olive's 12 week recovery. No walking, complete confinement in her crate. Lots of pills, powers and drops. Today was our first day of her medication schedule, starting at 5:00 AM. Then 7:00AM, 9:00AM, etc.
I've got to stuff my own severe pain down. Squish it into submission if I can. There's just no time for it.
It's more than challenging to gingerly lift Olive to put her in a sling, carry her outside to go potty, hand feed her since she's so stiff, feed her water with a syringe, hold cold compresses on her back (careful to avoid her stitches)...this is hard. But I won't complain. This dog of mine is a wonderful family member. So I will continue to pray for her recovery. And I will continue to argue and fight back internally against my own chronic pain to make sure that my adorable Olive gets everything that she needs. Thank God my husband took the next two days off of work to help out.
I won't be sparking much for a while, but I will be thinking of my spark pals and wishing you days filled with low pain, healthy food and lots of movement : ).
