What a boost

If I'd been blogging regularly, I 'd have followed up on lots, I suppose. My team completed our Virtual Appalachian Trail Walk. And we did it with some miles to spare. It was kind of fun, but I knew none of my teammates, and none of them were local for me. When they do the walk across Europe this fall, I'm going to friends so I have local company.
I spent a week in Arizona last month. I went as part of a volunteer team to renovate a church on the Navajo reservation there. It was a completely different lifestyle for the week. I work in IT, so there's a lot of seat time. For the week, I spent a lot of time on my feet. It was HOT. Even the locals were complaining about the 110 degree highs. All that stuff about "dry heat". Not so much. Hot is hot, my friends. Yes, it was a bit less uncomfortable than a humid 100 in PA, but, at that point, it was just hot.
So I was more active, got more sleep and drank way more water than I would have at home. At the scale, that translated to an 8 pound loss. I didn't bother to record it, as I wanted to see if it held back in the home environs. Well, 10 days later, I not only kept the weight off, I 've lost another pound. I count that as unofficial. My weigh-in day is Monday, so that last pound could just be normal fluctuation. Still, it was gone this morning and I'm celebrating.
I spend a lot of time at my home desk in the evening, and I've added dumbbell exercises to my time there. I never knew 5 pounds could seem so heavy.
I've also added lunchtime. I tended to view a one hour lunch as excessive. I'd rather have a half hour back at the end of the day, but that's my schedule. Now that I'm walking, it's pretty nice. There's a nice park a block away from my building with a walking path around it that's just short of a mile. Nice find, since I have a 5K walk coming up in about 6 weeks.
