Super Turtle Comeback!

Well I did it. I've been talking about it, looking forward to it, but finally I have actually signed up for my first 10K!!! It's on September 11 at Carowinds just outside of Charlotte. I also started speed work and hill training and long runs. I am following a training plan so careful to increase my mileage slowly, especially given my June-long hiatus from pretty much all things exercise-y. My 5K the last Saturday of June may have been my first good workout all month! Not so for July...or really since I laced up my running shoes two weeks ago and decided to race for no other reason than I had already paid for it. And there was a finisher's medal. I am a sucker for medals.
But since then I've trained or cross-trained every day. And you know what, even after a month of slacking, I am finding myself springing right back. I did a full hour of BUTI yoga tonight and only had to take child's pose a few times. I'll finish up this week with 15 miles and change. They all suck more than if I had not decided to let my training lapse for more than a couple of weeks, but they are tolerable.
And on Monday I started a Meetup group called Super Turtles Running. I even designed a silly little Super Turtle on my iPad sketchpad and ordered a tank top to represent. So far I have 9 members. None have signed up yet for tomorrow's 5 mile training run, but I am hopeful I might be able to make some running buddies soon that run I can actually keep up with!
